Stage design workshop

Since 2013, KUBO has been offering young people the opportunity to discover a special approach to art: at the interface between performing arts and visual arts, young people develop a stage design in cooperation with the Junges Theater Bremen and are introduced to a complex form of artistic collaboration. We would like to continue this cooperation in the future.

Together with professional artists, the participants in the stage design workshops developed a stage design to accompany the development of a play in the theater workshops of the Junge Akteur:innen ("Young Actors") on the topics including „Lady Liberty“ (2015), „Spiel des Lebens“ (2016), „Neubau“ (2019), „Forever?“ (2022). The stage sets were developed in an artistic process and in collaboration with the theater group. The focus was on spatial composition, staging and (technical) implementation.

The young people in the stage design group got to know the young theater actors and regularly attended their rehearsals in order to come up with a creative idea for the developing play: Style, mood, time, language, concerns and the message or effect of the play were determined in conversation and during rehearsals. The participants developed an idea for the stage from the factors they found.  A stage set does not always consist of brochures and illustrative furnishings; video projections or installations have also been part of the stage design in recent years.
